As a discipline, the foundations of Industrial Engineering can be traced back to the First Industrial Revolution. Today, as we live through Industry 4.0, the program focuses on the design, implementation and improvement of integrated and complex systems consisting of people, data, equipment, energy and materials. Industrial and Systems Engineers are highly open to interdisciplinary collaboration and they graduate with critical skills such as analytical thinking, systematic approach, modelling and optimization, while having the opportunity to specialize on various systems that exist in many areas such as manufacturing, healthcare, IT, transportation and financial markets.
The solutions developed by Industrial Engineers contribute to the automation and improvement of processes and systems in many areas including –but not limited to– the above. Thanks to its flexible structure, the Department of Industrial Engineering at Istinye University aims to educate its students as highly specialized and self-confident individuals by enabling them to interact with different disciplines throughout their time at Istinye University.
As a result of the rapid digital transformation that we experience today and the resulting surge in data accessibility, coupled with the dramatic advances in area such as computation data processing and human-machine interaction, has rendered many optimization problems that had been unapproachable in the past solvable. This state of affairs has necessitated, as in many other disciplines, the reshaping of the Industrial Engineering curriculum as well. In this regard, the Department of Industrial ngineering at Istinye University prepares its students for the future by leveraging on its strong and up-to- date curriculum that is well-aligned to the current developments in science and industry.
Our course plan begins with a strong engineering education that provides solid foundations of basic science as well as modern technical skills such as coding, algorithms and graphical design. In the following years, students can anticipate courses that are expected to increase their technical depth in various components of Industrial Engineering such as production processes, probability and statistics, modelling and optimization, data analytics, engineering economics, system design, quality engineering, and production planning. Furthermore, through a wide range of elective courses, students have the opportunity to specialize in a wide range of areas such as supply chain management, logistics planning, artificial intelligence and mechanical learning, or financial engineering.
